NEW ORLEANSApril 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — (AOTA, Southpaw Booth #1331) – Epson today announced a partnership with Southpaw Enterprises, the leading manufacturer in equipment for patients and students suffering from sensory disabilities, to help enhance client experiences with new visual display technology in multi-sensory environments. Tom Marshall, director of sales and training for multi-sensory environments at Southpaw, chose the Epson LightSceneTM accent lighting laser projector to work with a new video system that offers occupational therapists virtually unlimited flexibility when choosing images that are most pleasing and calming to their clients. Illuminating dynamic content in a sleek form factor, LightScene is a simple solution to display custom content onto virtually any material or location in the room. The Epson LightScene will be on display at American Occupational Therapy Association’s Annual Conference & Expo in New Orleans, La.April 4-6 at the Southpaw booth #1331.

“Projection has long been a staple in multi-sensory environments, but the devices have been very simple until now. LightScene has opened new avenues for us in display technology,” Marshall noted. “For people with certain mental health issues, the worst thing you can do is show them a distorted image. With LightScene the image is very clear, and the colors are crisp and bright. Plus, it’s unique design and flexibility makes the movement of imagery around the room simple and easy to guide the client’s vision where needed.”

Display Solution Without Limitations
LightScene leverages Epson’s 3LCD laser technology and includes 360-degree vertical and horizontal rotation, along with powered optical zoom and focus to deliver reliable and flexible performance with few visual placement limitations.

To provide an all-in-one video solution, Southpaw designed a video player that works seamlessly with the Epson LightScene. The video player comes preloaded with videos and allows therapists to easily create additional content that can be personalized and adapted to the comfort of each client. The player is designed to connect to LightScene, providing a flexible display system that allows therapists to share, create and move images anywhere in the room to capture clients’ attention. For example, if someone is lying on the floor, a therapist may want to throw a familiar image on the ceiling, or if a client is very withdrawn, the therapist can display an image at their feet and then move it away to encourage movement.

The new video player also connects wirelessly to Southpaw’s Interactive Super Switch and Power Cube. Both devices allow clients to easily control a variety of stimuli in the sensory room. With a simple push of a button or a turn of a foam cube, clients are able to simply change the content being displayed through LightScene to appease their needs.

“As a brand-new addition to our digital display solution lineup, we are continually learning of unique ways that our partners are leveraging LightScene to help enhance environments across different markets,” said Remi Del Mar, senior product manager, Epson America, Inc. “It has been a pleasure working with Southpaw, and being part of an all-around display solution that allows therapists to customize visual content to adapt to each clients’ needs, without impacting the environment.”
