First Luxury Cummins Diesel Land Rover Built by E.C.D., Fit for the Outdoor Lifestyle
KISSIMMEE, FL – November 21, 2019 – E.C.D. Automotive Design, known for full ground-up restorations of classic Land Rover Defenders, has delivered their first custom Defender 110 powered by the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel engine, also marking the completion of the 200th vehicle built by the company.
Headed for the mountains in Montana, this custom Defender 110, called Project Peacemaker, was built with features to suit the outdoor lifestyle or for anyone else who may have a use for a substantial amount of storage compartments. In the rear, the windows are replaced with Frontrunner Gullwing storage boxes with aluminum hatches. The rear load-area features a Frontrunner pull-out drawer with a 110V power-outlet for high-voltage equipment. The center console features an Exmoor Trim premium lock-box and underneath the driver’s seat is a small storage compartment for personal belongings.
The R2.8 Cummins Turbo Diesel is a four-cylinder engine that produces more than double the horsepower and nearly four-times the torque of the original diesel engine offered in the classic Land Rover Defenders. According to Cummins, the R2.8 engine is “not a direct bolt-in replacement.” The drivetrain team at E.C.D. Automotive Design, lead by ASE Master Certified technician Carlos G. Figueroa, was able to install the engine behind the steering box and in front of the rear cross member with no custom oil coolers or cutting of the cross member.
“Overall, this custom Defender 110 maintains a classic, almost factory feel but also features many subtle upgrades tailored to the owner’s intended use,” says Tom Humble, co-founder of E.C.D. Automotive Design.
