Is it true that owning and caring for a pet can make us happier and healthier? Ask a pet owner and they will probably agree this is true. Caring for someone or something other than ourselves can be rewarding, give us a higher level of self-esteem, and cause us to think about the well-being of others. According to psychologists, owning a pet cannot only help individuals who are lonely to benefit from a companion, but can assist the pet owner to feel more confident in themselves.

In independent studies, it’s been shown that pets can benefit their owners in many ways. It helps the pet owner feel more socially inept, improves conscientiousness, and improves depression. Pet owners also tend to have more productive relationships and are less fearful than non-pet owners.

Another study found that dog owners were less stressed, felt a sense of belonging, and an improvement in the owner’s health and wellbeing. A third experiment determined that 97% of pet owners felt they were socially rejected. Others either wrote about their pets or wrote about their best friend. The interesting takeaway is that those who wrote about their dog were as contented as those who wrote about their best friend.

Should You Adopt a French Bulldog?

If an individual is pondering adopting a dog, the French Bulldog may be a fun choice. They are a very popular breed and their qualities make them a good dog for families with children. However, before committing to adopting a Frenchie it is important to know the possible health problems that might be encountered so that you can prepare properly.

Common Health Issues for French Bulldogs

All dogs are prone to health problems but some breeds encounter health problems that other breeds do not. French Bulldogs possess a fun and entertaining personality which is a great reason to own one. Take into consideration the health problems that can occur before you adopt. French Bulldog health problems can be more serious than other breeds. They can suffer from allergies, ear infections, deafness, heat sensitivity, spinal disorders, and other concerning health difficulties.

The Royal Frenchel, a smaller breed of French Bulldog, which is a hybrid mix of French Bulldog and King Charles Spaniel, has been found to suffer fewer health difficulties than French Bulldogs. It’s not to say the Royal Frenchel has no health challenges.

However, understanding those potential problems can help you make an informed decision before one is adopted. A checklist might be valuable. Having a comprehensive checklist will help assure you have all the bases covered and you are prepared to welcome your Royal Frenchel into your family. Only after these questions are answered affirmatively should you adopt a Royal Frenchcel.

Why Owning a Pet Can Make You a Happier Person

For your pet to be happy and well, you will want to provide the best possible care for your pets. Studies have shown providing that care and attention does help both the pet and his owner to be happier. Here are some great reasons to adopt a pet.

  1. You become a more responsible person: having someone else to care for can make a pet owner a more responsible person since the pet is depending on you to care for their needs.
  2. Pets may help you bond better with your community: owning a pet can improve your community relationships by taking part in social conversations about your pet.
  3. Pets help you become more active: if you own a dog you will probably increase your exercise since dogs need activity and regular walks daily.
  4. Pets can relax you: just like humans, our pets want to be loved. Cuddling and spending quality time together can help you both relax.
  5. You may love yourself more: psychologists in proven studies have shown that owning a pet helps pet owners love themselves more because there is someone in their lives that count on them for survival.
  6. Pets are mood boosters: owning a pet improves mood by increasing the positive aspects called dopamine in our brains through neurotransmitters.
  7. Pets can make us more empathetic:  since our pet needs to be nurtured, owning a pet may help pet owners to show more empathy to others.
