Despite the pandemic, we must maintain our infrastructure. Construction workers must continue to work with COVID at the back of their minds. To help you ease that burden and ensure your construction site stays functional, read some safety tips for construction workers during COVID-19.

Prescreen Employees Before Shifts

Many businesses now screen their employees before they come into work and start their shift. You can make use of this yourself—screenings can help you identify workers who show subtle symptoms of illness. To ensure workers don’t show up despite knowing they have symptoms, offer paid time off for infected employees. This provides them with job security and keeps them from showing up for work because they fear they’ll lose their job.

All in all, prescreening is one of the best safety tips for construction workers during COVID-19 so that you can catch infected employees before they enter the site and cause an outbreak among your other employees.

Raise Sanitation Standards

While a construction site needs portable restrooms whether there’s a pandemic or not, you can raise the standards of sanitation by investing in restroom trailers that feature amenities like sinks, running water, and electricity. This helps reduce the spread of germs and bacteria, as workers can keep their hands clean with soap and water. You should also regularly wipe down and disinfect machinery and tools, as they change hands quite often. Over time, bacteria will accumulate and potentially spread between every worker who uses these tools.

Personal Protective Equipment

Since construction workers can’t always maintain proper social distancing throughout the workday, you should make sure to provide face masks along with the other personal protective equipment each employee receives. This will keep your workers from accidentally coughing or inhaling germs when they need to break social distancing protocols. Plus, it’s an easy preventive measure that doesn’t cost much.
