Harsh Environments in a Warehouse

Many people don’t realize this, but a warehouse isn’t an isolated place. There are plenty of harsh environments in a warehouse that can damage and wear down a conveyor system. That’s why it’s important for you to know about some of these conditions. That way, you’ll be able to plan for them.

Temperature

Temperature differences create one of the most common harsh environments in a warehouse. Many goods and materials require a certain temperature to process correctly. However, the conveyor belts that carry these goods also need to withstand the different temperatures. Otherwise, they might break down, resulting in damage to your goods.

Liquids

Liquids cause another frequent issue within warehouse environments. Transporting liquids on a conveyor system requires a special kind of conveyor, which differs depending on the liquid. A normal conveyor can’t handle the liquid well as a specialized one. Make sure to look out for leaks as well; they can cause corrosion and be slipping hazards.

Dust

Dust and other airborne particles can cause a lot of problems for conveyor systems. They can clog up and damage systems if not addressed. Fortunately, there are plenty of conveyor systems designed to work in dusty conditions.

Vibration

Heavy machinery is very common in places with conveyor systems. However, heavy machinery can also cause a lot of damage to conveyor systems and materials, as they vibrate the conveyors. Try to get machinery that doesn’t vibrate much or conveyor systems that can handle vibrations.

Weather and Nature

Another condition that damages normal conveyor systems is weather and nature. Outdoor conveyors are subject to rain and wind, which can easily damage the system over time. Even random animals or falling tree branches can damage a good conveyor system.

These environments and conditions are horrible for normal conveyor systems. However, there are plenty of conveyor systems that can handle harsh environments and still function just fine. It’s just a matter of getting them for your business.
