It often feels as though getting a job is all about marketing yourself correctly, and it’s entirely true. You must show your skills and know what employers seek. You want to showcase your skills and how you fulfill their requirements properly. That’s why you should know how to make sure you’re marketable for a new job.

Recent Work

One thing that a lot of places account for is your work history. More importantly than where you work is the timeframe of your work: you want to seem like an active worker. It’s best to get a new job when you already have one, but volunteer work or part-time jobs can make your resume look better.

Management Experience

One of the most valuable skill sets that always interest employers is management experience. Try to play up any leadership roles you’ve held in your resume and interview. This will tell them that you are a great asset to their team and can lead a group of people in the future.

Soft Skills

Soft skills are those abilities that enable good work outside of technical skills. Things like good communication and teamwork are valuable skills to an employer that you should improve upon. The best place to show this is in an interview, as it’s where your soft skills come into play the most. The best trick is to stay calm and kind, as doing so will get you further in the interview.

Background Check

The last thing you should do is run a background check on yourself. There’re many reasons you should run a background check, but the main reason is to know what it says about you. You don’t want to lose potential jobs because you didn’t know your background said something bad or incorrect. The only way to stay ahead of this is to run one on yourself. Luckily, as long as you find a good background check company, they aren’t too expensive and are quick to run.

Now that you know how to make sure you’re marketable for a new job and know what employers want outside of experience, you can give yourself the best chance possible for new job applications.
