Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland Boosts Efficiency and Road Safety with Motorola Solutions

Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland (DTMR) has implemented an innovative mobile application from Motorola Solutions to enable its transport inspectors to work more efficiently while increasing safety on Queensland’s roads. The Queensland Compliance Information System (QCIS) replaces paper notebooks with an easy-to-use digital solution that streamlines and simplifies the way operational information is processed, stored and analysed.

“The Queensland Government is committed to delivering a road network that supports our economy by enabling traffic to flow smoothly while providing a safe and pleasant journey for all road users,” said the Honourable Bart Mellish, MP, Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Minister for Digital Services. “By equipping Queensland’s road inspectors with the latest digital technology, they can better uphold the state’s road regulations and compliance requirements which ultimately benefits all road users in our state.”

QCIS delivers considerable time-saving benefits for transport inspectors, allowing them to conduct a single vehicle intercept in just 15 minutes. With QCIS, inspectors are now recording up to 3,000 vehicle intercepts and issuing up to 1,000 compliance forms, including infringement notices, every month. The application also supports road safety at a national level by sharing Queensland’s heavy vehicle information with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

The flexible and easy-to-use solution operates on Apple iPads and a web management portal, enabling transport inspectors across Queensland to access real time vehicle registration and licensing information. QCIS is integrated with relevant compliance databases for heavy, passenger and transport vehicles. The application has been further enhanced with Queensland’s new Digital Licence app, which provides a fast and convenient way to verify the identities of drivers.

QCIS supports an important objective of Department of Main Roads Queensland’s strategic plan to provide a safe and secure transport system for passengers and goods.

Other Australian organisations that use Motorola Solutions’ mobile applications to help front-line workers operate safely and efficiently include the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator  and  Western Australia Police.
