Take a Look at Adorable Puzzle-Platformer CATO, the Purrfect Brain-Bender for Anyone who Loves Cats and Buttered Toast

Each night, we lie awake in our beds and ask the question: what happens when you combine an irresistibly adorable feline with the savory delight of buttered toast? Thankfully, the two-person dev studio Team Woll bravely took it upon themselves to answer that question: Cat + Toast = CATO, the charming buttered cat paradox puzzler .

CATO is an adorable puzzle platformer in which players must multitask by controlling a cat and a piece of buttered toast to solve a myriad of challenges. Originally created for the GCORES GameJam 2022, hosted by publisher GCORES Publishing, the team decided to use the positive feedback they received from the event to create an official, full-loaf version of the game. CATO was originally inspired by buttered cat paradox memes, a thought experiment that suggests since cats always land on their feet and buttered toast always lands butter-side down, CATO can produce an anti-gravity effect.

At release, CATO will contain 100 levels of puzzles, multiple biomes, and bonus minigames for players to enjoy. Players can control both their cat and piece of toast solo, or play with a friend to help with more difficult areas. CATO’s Steam Next Fest demo is around 50 minutes long and includes 24 levels for players to try now, ahead of the game’s full release this fall.
