Review: 73& Sunny Gripstand Remote Covers

Are you sitting on the remote? Are you sure? Get up I need to make sure. The remote control in a household is almost as bad as Monopoly when it comes to the abandonment of trust. You could be married for 40 years and not believe your Spouse when it comes to finding the remote. It’s even worse when you have a small child, a Toddler I believe we call it, who has figured out the buttons and thinks HE is in charge of the remote during all waking hours. Thankfully there has been a glorious solution to this constant struggle of balance in our household.

Design
I have to say, since my reviews are honest, when I first was planning to do this I thought that I wouldn’t be a YUGE fan of this product. I thought it was going to be goofy and obnoxious to put on and just feel weird. I am the first to admit when I am wrong and I was about as wrong as it gets. The people over at 73&Sunny took something we ALL struggle with and came up with an exceptional design idea to fix it.

The idea is simple yet so well executed. 73 designed a case for the most popular remotes out there. The Roku Remote, The Apple Remote and the Alexa Voice Remote. We have Roku TVs that we use here mainly because simplicity is key and price is important. The Roku remote is small and smooth, it’s black/purple, IYKYK, and by god it has legs I swear. The team at 73 must have me in mind because I crave simplicity and appreciate the power of thoughtful design.
The case itself is made of an extremely durable high tensile strength silicone that can withstand even the grumpiest of hockey game attitude. Not only is it durable, but it is also extremely grippy. I have larger hands that struggle with small things like the Roku remote without this case. The GripStand is oversizes which is perfect for the elderly or the large handed people like me. It honestly gives it a very strong feeling in the hand that improves the quality and value feeling.

The color options that go with this are stellar as well. There is the basic but sleek Black, the “Best Gatorade Flavor” Blue, and the “Let’s Play Lightsabers” Green. All of these names I made up but it’s how I see them. Maybe they will use this on their site. The Green and Blue remote have a super neat feature the Black does not. They glow in the dark! They will glow very brightly for about 10 minutes and then a softer glow for about an hour. This is really helpful when it winds up under the couch, or hidden in the ottoman.
If you are lucky enough to be able to set the remove somewhere without it getting up and moving then this also has a benefit for you. 73 created a patent pending design that allows the remote to remain standing up. Personally this is one of my favorite things as I like to set it on the TV stand, or the table or even just on the back of the couch hidden from small fingers. Allowing it to stand AND glow makes it super easy to locate when its a romantic night on the couch watching murder shows and gore.

If all of this isn’t enough wow factor then sit tight. On top of all of these features the biggest idea they had and ran with is the option to put an Apple AirTag or a Tile Mate in the butt of this GripStand. At first I thought this was ridiculous but after I did it and tried it out I totally understand and appreciate it. A simple button click and the AirTag pings its adorable little beep revealing the secret treasure that is the remote my toddler hid in between the couch cushions or in his room in the toy box. This has been beyond helpful with our life as silly as it seems. We have many rooms available with a lot of hiding places and when you want to just put the news on in the 20 minutes before the kids wake up in the morning, a hunt for Red October is not on the to do list.

Overall
I am beyond pleased and happy to have had the opportunity to review these simple yet incredible products. The glow in the dark is not only helpful but it is cool and exciting for me as an adult and the same for my 3 year old. The two glow color options that they call “Lime Glow and Sky Glow”, my names are way cooler, really stand out amongst the color schemes of any house making them super easy to spot.
The grip itself and the size of the case is not exaggerated or eccentric at all. It just feels right in the hand like a Wii remote but controlling so much more. It makes it so much easier to click the buttons, to hold it and for it not to get damaged by falling, being thrown or used as a Harry Potter wand by a toddler who has no grip strength. I can attest that my remote has survived some pretty hefty wall hits and tumbles down the stairs with no damage and still working.
If losing a remote into the cracks of the Grand Canyon that are the couch cushions is an issue for you. The ability to add an AirTag or a Tile Mate to ping the device is next level brilliance. As I’ve said before this is such a simple design that packs an incredible amount of thought and simplicity into our already overwhelming lives.
