AAA: Gas Prices Dip in PA

Gas prices are three cents lower in Western Pennsylvania this week at $3.439 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.
Nationwide Trends:
A recent refinery issue caused a brief surge in gas prices last week ahead of Labor Day weekend. However, the national average for a gallon of regular is stable today at $3.18, the same as it was one week ago. Today’s national average is three cents more than a month ago, but 15 cents less than a year ago.
The largest refinery in the Midwest, BP Whiting Refinery in Indiana, shut down operations for several days due to flooding following a severe thunderstorm. As a result, states in the Great Lakes region saw an increase in gas prices, but the refinery is back online.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.84 million barrels per day last week to 9.24 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 223.6 million barrels to 222.3. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10 million barrels per day.
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, West Texas Intermediate rose 90 cents to settle at $64.15 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories decreased by 2.4 million barrels from the previous week. At 418.3 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 6% below the five-year average for this time of year.
The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stayed the same this past week at 36 cents.
