DGA awards Greenerwave the CAMELEON framework agreement to develop next-generation SATCOM terminals using PESA technology.

The French Defence Procurement Agency (Direction générale de l’armement – DGA) has awarded the French company Greenerwave, and its co-contractors Airbus Defence and Space and Thales, the CAMELEON framework agreement covering the design, development and production of next-generation satellite communication (SATCOM) terminals. With a duration of seven years and a maximum value of €120 million, this framework agreement will enable the award of subsequent contracts intended to meet the growing needs of the Ministry of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs in the field of satellite communications.

As the prime contractor under the framework agreement, Greenerwave will rely on a leading industrial ecosystem bringing together Airbus Defence and Space and Thales in order to develop a new generation of SATCOM terminals adapted to the rapid evolution of the space sector and the operational requirements of the armed forces.

The contract covers a particularly broad scope, encompassing the various satellite orbits – Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Geostationary Orbit (GEO) – all major frequency bands used for satellite communications, as well as multiple deployment platforms, including land, naval and airborne applications.

In a context marked by the rise of new satellite constellations, the multiplication of secure connectivity requirements and the need for resilient capabilities in constrained environments, armed forces must be able to rely on terminals that are more capable, more energy-efficient, easier to deploy and compatible with an increasing number of satellite systems. The CAMELEON framework agreement aims to address these challenges by fostering the development of innovative solutions based on Greenerwave’s sovereign electronically steered antenna technology.

This approach will notably make it possible to offer cost-effective, low-power terminals capable of operating across multiple frequency bands while maintaining a high level of performance and operational agility. These characteristics represent a major asset in a context marked by increasing capability requirements and the search for solutions that can be rapidly industrialised.

The award of this framework agreement is the culmination of several years of work conducted by the DGA alongside Greenerwave. The experiments and evaluations carried out have confirmed both the maturity of the technology developed by the company and its potential to meet the needs of the French armed forces.

The award of the CAMELEON framework agreement represents a major milestone for Greenerwave and recognition of several years of innovation carried out hand in hand with the DGA. We are proud to place our sovereign electronically steered antenna solutions at the service of the French armed forces. Together with our partners Airbus Defence and Space and Thales, we are helping to strengthen French and European technological sovereignty by developing a new generation of SATCOM terminals that are more capable, more energy-efficient and able to meet the operational challenges faced by the armed forces,” said Geoffroy Lerosey, Chairman and co-founder of Greenerwave.

Through this framework agreement, the DGA continues its strategy of supporting defence innovation and developing a sovereign industrial and technological base in the field of satellite communications. Future developments carried out under CAMELEON will contribute to strengthening France’s strategic autonomy in military communications while consolidating a national centre of excellence designed and manufactured in France.

About Greenerwave

Greenerwave is a French deeptech company with offices in Paris, Toulouse and Sophia Antipolis. Pioneer in next-generation SATCOM user terminals, the company leverages a unique expertise in electromagnetic wave control. At the core of its innovation lie Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), combined with advanced physics-inspired algorithms that enable electromagnetic waves carrying signals to be guided efficiently and dynamically in real time. This novel approach allows the company to design electronically steerable flat antennas that deliver high-performance connectivity while significantly reducing energy consumption and reliance on semiconductors compared with conventional solutions. Multi-orbit and compatible with all current and future satellite constellations (including OneWeb, IRIS², and others), Greenerwave’s SATCOM terminals address the growing demand for secure, sovereign and resilient connectivity, combining flexibility, efficiency, technological agnosticism and reliability. Beyond SATCOM, the company also applies its unique expertise to other strategic sectors, driving innovation in telecommunications and sensing technologies.
