Sound on the go. Sennheiser CX 400BT

As I sit here listening to one of the greatest demo songs for Headphones. Money by Pink Floyd (my opinion) Great instruments for various mids and stereo separation. I said hey I should write a review on these.

CX 400Bt are a set of true Bluetooth ear buds. We are going to talk about what they offer and what they are missing.

Design:

What’s in the box? CX 400BT True Wireless Earbuds, Silicone ear adapter sets (XS, S, M, L), Charging Case, USB-C Cable, Quick Guide & Safety Guide

I have the black version. It also comes in white. Both colours are done in a matte finish giving it a soft satin feeling in your hand and slides in and out of pockets un-accumbered.

The case/battery comes in at 2.32”W x 1.5”D x 1.65”H. she is a little big compared to other portable headphone in its category. Now to be fair it is not the biggest case we have seen.

Lid had a nice secure lid with a lovely snap upon closing. Love a nice snap in my BT lids

USB-C on the back with a indicator light to the left giving you battery level (green, yellow, red) to the right you have a button for that indicator.

The Sennheiser logo embossed in chrome on the top of the lid.

Inside the case you have 2 form fitting holes that hold the earbuds with their substantial magnetic docks

The ear buds fit very comfortably despite the larger designed body. It is very odd. They look like they would be heavy and apply pressure in the ear but not the case at all. Fit well and hold in tight for mid-level activity like a jog or time in the gym. I would not recommend a hard aggressive run or jumping around in them.

Tech and features:

Sennheiser’s 7mm dynamic drivers which are also in the MOMENTUM True Wireless 2 earphones. Developed for the audio specialist’s premium true wireless earphones, this bespoke acoustic system delivers high-fidelity stereo sound with deep bass, natural mids and clear, detailed treble.

There is single ear playing but only on the right ear. If you put the right ear back in the case you lose all sound. If you put left ear in the case it will continue playing

The Sennheiser smart control app is one of my favourites for custom EQ settings. There isn’t much going on beside that. Just EQ.

No active noise cancelling on the CX 400BT but passive is decent with the strong seal the ear buds create.

After reading the manual there is no listed IP rating on these. So, encourage you NOT to do any aggressive exercise with these on. If you are a heavy sweater you might wreck your headphones.

Call quality was decent enough. Did not have a case where people have a hard time hearing me. I wouldn’t put them in my top 10 for call quality but it is good enough for the price. Wouldn’t make me regret my purchase.

SOUNDS:

Now my favourite part. Time to listen to some good old music. To be honest this is why you buy these. They are not a hit the gym type of head phones. More of a out and about and lounging at home enjoying some tunes type of head phones.

Highs, mids and lows are accurate to the instruments in a song. Instruments is key word. For instance, music with over glorified base. Example hip-hop, EDM and other artificial tones it can struggle with.

Now some testing examples.

Moving in stereo – the cars: audio separation clear, sound of the symbols is clear to the point you can hear the full length if the hit on them. Synth sounds have a wide sound presence as was indented in the song. Singer unique voice stays in perfect clarity. Never muddy even when all the instruments come in together. Still hear all instruments clearly.

Glory and gore – lorde: Lorde has a great voice for lower mids and high bass. Her voice fills the ears with warm and full sound. The bass is punchy but not over the top. Synthetic sound is very apparent. Almost to clear (not in a good way) voice never gets drowned in the music.

The business – Tiesto: Song has a low muddy disposition naturally but in the clearer moments the signers voice has depth. The high hats and claps are clear. Bass for the most part is punchy but in super low you hear the speakers losing power to prevent cracking.

Fly me to the moon – frank Sinatra: Absolutely amazing clarity in his voice. His depth in on full showing.  Intro on the snare is raspy and accurate. Brass is showing off all the ranges they can hit. Not once did it sound like the sound was smearing in to each other. Every instrument and voice were clear and separated.

My finals opinion:

These are not for the bass nut, looking for super tech features or someone who just paying music in the background. I would recommend these to someone who loves to sit around or going for walks and listen to some music for the pleasure of hearing the notes, voice and various nuances. These are not audiophile head phones but do have amazing detail for a Bluetooth ear bud.

These right now on sale for $129.99 and are some of the best price for listening that are available. You can find them HERE.
