Factors That Can Affect Your Internet Performance

Internet access and convenient networking are invaluable tools when working in the office, but efficiency and reliability can suffer greatly if you don’t take the proper factors into consideration. The factors that can affect your internet performance can range from software issues to hardware malfunctions, and knowing what to expect can help you better combat the problems. Be aware of how your office’s network is set up so you can better troubleshoot these issues.

Viruses

Viruses and malware are things that every computer user has had to deal with at some point, and your office computers are just as susceptible as your home computer. Once on your devices, viruses can run in the background without your knowledge, using up more of your computer’s processing power than usual; this results in a slowdown for no apparent reason.

Take Measures Beforehand

When a virus latches onto your computer, it can be difficult to flush it from the system. Eliminating viruses can be as easy as deleting the corrupted files from your computer or as frustrating as having to give your device a factory reset. Take the necessary preventative measures and invest in anti-virus software.

Temperature

Electronic hardware can be highly susceptible to high temperatures due to the heat they already generate. An increase in heat can cause damage to the internal components of devices as a result of overheating. In terms of your network reliability, this can come in the form of damage to your Ethernet cable. Knowing the effects of temperature on your cables can help you mitigate long-term damage.

Keep Things Cool

You need to ensure that your devices and cables are kept cool enough to prevent overheating and heat damage. You can achieve low temperatures with a climate control system to keep your office space cooler, making the temperature comfortable for employees and electronics.

Number of Users

One of the most common reasons for decreased internet performance in your office is the number of users on your network. An office can typically have multiple devices on one network simultaneously, but this puts a strain on the bandwidth and slows internet access down for everyone.

Eliminate Unnecessary Access

When there are too many users on your network, you can speed up your office’s internet in two ways. The first is to upgrade your internet package for more bandwidth. Increased bandwidth can be the simplest solution but can become expensive if your needs are extreme. The other way is to eliminate devices from the system that don’t need to be there. These devices can include personal cell phones or computers not intended for work purposes.

Know Your Office’s Issues

Without being aware of the problems causing your office issues, you cannot adequately solve them. Troubleshoot what’s wrong and eliminate possibilities before you invest in solutions. Putting money into a solution will only cost your business more expenses if you’re investing in an issue unrelated to your slowdown.
