In home protection and monitoring is something that most of us want and even need in this modern age. Having cameras set up indoors is honestly becoming a norm in today’s world. Whether you’re looking to make sure you always capture those precious moments with your family, or if you like to make sure you don’t come home to an unexpected intruder, in home cameras are the easiest way to go. I have recently been able to try out the YI Dome Guard and be able to give you all my opinion on it.

Design

The YI Dome looks pretty similar to most indoor cameras that you find for the home. It has a sturdy round base that keeps its balance well when moving the head around to look at the room. The camera itself can run on 2.4ghz Wifi or it can be hardwired in as well. The top camera section is simple looking as well. A nice round head that holds a stunning 3 million pixels, up to 2304 x 1296 resolution camera with an incredible 850-nm infrared lights, a high-sensitivity image sensor and F1.9 large aperture lens that captures clear images in even the darkest of settings.

The App is also jam packed with features that help you utilize the camera to its fullest capabilities. The app allows you to review video depending on your subscription package. You can use the 2 way communication feature to talk to the people you’re looking at and hear them respond. There is a feature to allow you take still shots or record video live while you’re viewing. You also have two storage options which include the cloud or a micro SD card. Lastly you have the ability to spin the camera all the way around, up and down.

Functionality

The best thing about this specific camera is probably the PTZ or pan, tilt, zoom feature that gives you basically a 360 degree view of whatever room you put this in. The camera is very responsive when using the app as well. Moving the camera around there is a very minor delay but it is expected with anything over wifi. The night vision is also extremely clear. We turned off all the lights in the room we were using and were able to see the whole room in great detail.

Storing the vide on the SD card was simple as well. You do have to have the SD card formatted to FAT32 as it does not work with EXFAT. This was a detail that I missed originally and discovered later. But this was just a minor change that needed to be done. You also have the option for cloud storage which you can utilize with one of the paid packages.

The two way microphone and speaker are surprisingly clear. I was able to communicate very clearly with my family while I was at work. My son, who is 2, was a little confused as to where I was but loved to hear my voice. The rest of the day he kept looking at the camera and trying to tell me things even when I wasn’t there. We were able to speak to each other very well.

The camera also has a motion detection feature that will recognize motion, track it and follow it with the camera without you having to do anything. This is great especially if you are trying to track an animal in your home. With the tracking feature it also has a smart AI that can distinguish between person, animal or sounds to help you avoid false alarms and fear from getting a notification.

Setup

Setup was simple to achieve by installing the app on my phone and scanning the QR code. The step by step guide was easy to follow and took little to no effort. I will say that I was having some connectivity issues throughout the review that caused some delays in writing. I reached out to support and received a quick response that helped me complete this.

Overall

Overall, for the price point this camera is easily an easy purchase. Currently on Amazon for $34.99 with an additional 15% off coupon. Without the paid package this camera can still record onto the SD card and give you plenty of back up. It is very easy to work, has a ton of fun features and can be placed virtually anywhere there is a plug. If you want to add this wonderful piece of technology into your home I would highly recommend buying one now or more! Check it out HERE and get yours today!
