Today, MMO publisher KingsIsle Entertainment is delighted to announce the launch of Darkmoor, the year’s largest content expansion for the beloved turn-based deckbuilding title, Wizard101. One of the MMO’s most highly anticipated updates to date, Darkmoor is a highly-anticipated and atmospheric world — an eerie realm steeped in shadow, mystery, and ancient magic. Eager wizards can download the Darkmoor update now on PC, with a console and EU server launch promised next year.

Built around gothic horror and dark fantasy, Darkmoor is a land where vampires prowl and werewolves howl. Players will explore this arcane land, traversing through spooky new areas and unraveling its secrets one thread at a time. This update also marks the beginning of Wizard101‘s next multi-year story arc, featuring a new major antagonist. This will be the title’s 5th story arc, and it promises to start vastly differently than the previous ones.
Along with the addition of a brand-new world, the Darkmoor update also brings a new set of spells for each School of Magic, inspired by the creatures and characters of this haunting new world. Additionally, multiple changes are being made to the existing Shadow Magic system to strengthen its connection to the game’s lore and give it more depth. Shadow Creatures, Shadow Pacts, and Enhanced Shadow Spells offer new strategic options for players to utilize Shadow Magic, and the Wizard101 team is excited to see how they use them.
The team has also included a few quality-of-life updates, including additions to the Photomancy mechanic (in-game photos) including lens and filter options, as well as raising the level cap from 170 to 180. More information about the Darkmoor update can be found here.
