Microvoxel Streaming Platform ‘Atomontage®’ Announces 2024 Edition Available Today, December 14th
Deep tech startup Atomontage Inc. is thrilled to announce today that the 2024 Edition of its groundbreaking Virtual Matter™ streaming platform is immediately available after more than 20 years of R&D. With it, anyone can easily build their own 3D world by uploading their own 3D models, or to generate 3D assets from any single image or photo.
Atomontage® 2024 Edition brings exciting new features, including integrated image-to-3D asset generation, a self-serve backend for uploading and voxelizing hugely detailed 3D content into Virtual Matter™, new tools for collaborative editing in real-time with dozens of users, and free, native clients for Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS, and Meta Quest. Atomontage® 2024 Edition also includes widespread performance enhancements, improved multi-user streaming, and the ability to embed these shared 3D playgrounds called Montages into a web page.
Atomontage Inc.’s proprietary Virtual Matter™ microvoxel technology allows for the creation of extreme-fidelity 3D worlds deliverable to almost any device. This breakthrough approach to real-time simulation and graphics has already been proven across many different use cases, including cultural heritage photogrammetry, cutting-edge bioimaging research, archaeology, paleontology, site planning for construction — and soon, video game development.

With significant upgrades to its cloud streaming performance, Atomontage® 2024 Edition allows dozens of users to join a single Montage, a shared volumetric world, and manipulate millions of microvoxels in real-time — including their avatars. The software company plans to support far more concurrent users in the future.
Seamless integration with partner Common Sense Machines’ Cube AI platform allows users to upload any single 2D image by drag and drop or share any photo on their phone to automatically transform them into easily editable Virtual Matter™ assets. New and free dedicated clients for desktop and mobile allow users to edit and enjoy their Montages at home or on the go. With Meta Quest 2 and 3 headsets, these Montages can also be experienced and remixed in full VR, where Virtual Matter™ becomes even more immersive and compelling.

As seen in popular video games such as Minecraft and Tuxedo Labs’ simulation game Teardown, voxels — or “volume pixels”, allow for deep player interactivity and simulation, with worlds and objects constructed by blocks. Atomontage®’s microvoxel technology, Virtual Matter™, offers the same kind of deep interactivity but at an extremely fine granularity while also being far less demanding on hardware computing power than 3D polygons used in traditional game development. Atomontage®’s Virtual Matter™ microvoxel data is also faster to load and easily streamable via the cloud to multiple different devices, allowing users on desktop, mobile, or VR to seamlessly access and interact with the same high-fidelity 3D worlds at the same time.
Expanded game development tools and features are planned for shortly after the Atomontage® 2024 Edition launch, with the addition of physically-based rendering, a full scripting environment, rigid body physics and animation, audio streaming, particle systems, and more in the coming months.
Atomontage® 2024 Edition Features:
- Native Clients for Desktop, Mobile, & VR: Dedicated applications for viewing and editing Montages for Windows, MacOS, Android, iOS, and even VR on the Meta Quest 2 & 3.
- Image-to-3D Generation: Integration with CSM’s Cube AI allows users to automatically turn any single 2D image into a Virtual Matter™ model, which is then editable in Atomontage®. AI generation will be free for a limited time.
- Self-Serve Uploading & Voxelizing: Upload your existing large 3D models, ranging in size up to 1 billion triangles. Models are then voxelized into Virtual Matter™ Assets, of which many can be added to your own sharable Montage.
- “Photoshop-for-3D” Tools: Easily edit and remix Virtual Matter™ inside the same Montage in real-time with dozens of other users, simultaneously, with intuitive tools that are rapidly being improved.
- Embeddable Montages: Embed your Montage within a website, allowing visitors to view or contribute straight from your webpage.
- Improved Streaming Performance: Improved streaming capability allows many users to edit Montages simultaneously, as with any other modern cloud document editor.
The initial release of Atomontage® 2024 Edition is available directly from the Atomontage website as free public Montages, with various pricing options available and a free 14-day trial to own your own Montage. Users can expect periodic updates adding new features and expanded capabilities starting in the following months.
