Helderburg Unveils the “Winston Churchill” Defender 130: A Timeless Classic Reimagined

Helderburg has unveiled its latest masterpiece, the Helderburg 130 “Churchill,” a custom-built 1997 Land Rover Defender 130. This one-of-a-kind vehicle, a numbers-matching heirloom, was meticulously crafted for a returning client’s growing collection and is designed to embody the resilience, sophistication, and enduring legacy of its namesake. The “Churchill” is a testament to Helderburg’s philosophy of blending heritage with modern refinement. While preserving the iconic silhouette of the original Defender, every element has been elevated with precision engineering, luxurious materials, and subtle performance enhancements. Check out the full video showcasing the “Winston Churchill”.

“Some vehicles transcend the idea of being just machines,” said Helderburg Founder Paul Potratz “They become statements of character, reflections of the people who inspired them, and heirloom pieces that carry timeless stories. The Helderburg 130 ‘Churchill’ is precisely one of those creations.”

The exterior of the “Churchill” features a deep, custom-mixed green finish that achieves a remarkable depth and richness, appearing nearly black in certain light and revealing its rich green undertones in the sun. This custom paint job, applied through a concours-level, three-stage process, is complemented by a satin black roof, a functional roll cage, and Helderburg’s signature billet aluminum detailing. The vehicle’s stance is further enhanced by properly offset wheels and subtle red tow hooks, creating a balanced and cohesive look that is both authentic and refined.

Beyond its striking appearance, the “Churchill” is engineered for both adventure and elegance. The vehicle’s suspension system includes custom radius arms, extended prop shafts, progressive coil springs, and dual-reservoir Fox shocks, ensuring a smooth ride on both city streets and rugged terrain. To handle its over 6,000 pounds of craftsmanship, the Defender is fitted with Helderburg’s exclusive braking system, featuring four-piston calipers at all corners for essential stopping power.

The interior is a return to classic luxury, drawing inspiration from Churchill’s equestrian life. Custom saddle-inspired leather, with fluted stitching that evokes mid-1980s Defender styling, will develop a natural patina over time. The cabin is filled with bespoke details, including billet hardware, an Italian Alcantara suede headliner, engraved copper badging, and a tactile wood-rim steering wheel. Every detail is crafted for comfort and refinement, from the custom-tailored driver’s seat to the state-of-the-art audio system with Italian amplifiers and Focal speakers.

“The Churchill is not merely a restoration; it is a philosophy of craftsmanship made tangible,” said Potratz. “It is a vehicle that honors tradition while embracing thoughtful modernization, resulting in a creation that feels both timeless and entirely unique.”
