Hands On: Laptop Sleeve From Waterfield Designs

wATERFIELD dESIGNS

Now that you have that new laptop, you need a way to protect it. Why take the cheap rout and by getting the low-priced big box store route and having to buy a new sleeve every few months when it tears. The folks over at WaterField Designs have been making quality cases in the USA for years. Lets check out the one I’m using.

I personally use the Custom Laptop Sleeve, which is just one of the Sleeve options they offer. They offer standard cases designed to fit some of the most popular laptop’s. From their website,  you can choose the laptop you have and then whether you would like your laptop to slide in either in the vertical or horizontal fashion.

Next you can choose what type of trim you would like. The options are Brown Leather (as is on mine), Black Leather, or Lead Idium. Both leather options will add $10 to the base cost.

Once you have chosen your trim, you can have the option of having a flat ( add on $15) or just a Velcro Strap (as shown on demo model)

Now is where you will need to decide if you want to use one of their nice Cargo Bags, or just use your laptop sleeve. You can add options such as Suspension Strap (add $22), A Simple  Strap (add $12) , or just a D-Rings with not strap (add $5).

If you choose to only have the Laptop Sleeve, you can add a Piggyback bag onto it for a little extra storage. Piggyback bag with Leather trim add’s $27 and Idium Trim add’s $25.

Now, how well does it hold up. The leather that Waterfield Designs uses is very hig quality and holds up very well to daily use. As you can see from the pictures, the leather has some scratches and signs of wear, but there is no tears and the leather is still 100% in tact. As you can also see, there is an outside slot that can carry a small folder, tablet, or magazine. The Sleeve I use has the strap over the top as opposed to a flap. The Nylon webbing that Waterfield Designs uses is very durable and has stood up very well. You can see some minor fraying of the strap, but it has not harmed the integrity at all. The strap can easily hold the weight of the Sleeve and my laptop without giving way.  The stitching that holds the Laptop Sleeve together is next to none. There is not one single fray in any of the stitching, not in the leather and not in the nylon Sleeve.  Worried about scratching your laptop? The inside is lined with neoprene to keep you scratch free.

Starting price for the Waterfield Designs Laptop Sleeve starts at $49 and goes up too $123 plus shipping depending on what options you add.  No, this is not the lowest cost you can spend on a sleeve for your laptop, but you must remember, not only are you buying a sleeve that will last for the LIFETIME of the case as Waterfied Designs has a lifetime warranty on their products. Also, the number one reason to purchase you case from here is the fact that all of their products are 100% made in the USA in San Francisco California.

Check out their site and look for something for you. Since it’s that time of the year, pick up one for a friend or family member for Christmas. Oh and don’t see a Sleeve that will fit your laptop, give them a call and see if they can custom make one with the dementions of your laptop.
