WaterField Announces Wallet Month, a Culmination of its Sixth Crowdsourced Design Project
WaterField Designs announces Wallet Month, the culmination of a two-month crowdsourced design project; the company harnessed the wisdom of over 2,000 of its customers to create new wallet designs that address their pain points and fit their various lifestyles. This week, WaterField introduces two new minimalist wallets — today, the Minemo, a compact wallet in new sumptuous full-grain leather or vintage-looking Italian waxed canvas, and this Friday, the Clyff Wallet, a dime-thin leather card and cash pouch. Every week in March, WaterField will unveil two additional new wallets, each handcrafted in WaterField’s San Francisco sewing studio.
“By tapping into customers’ experiences and creativity, we can develop products that more precisely fit their needs,” explained company owner, Gary Waterfield. “For this, our sixth crowdsourced design project, we asked participants what they like and dislike about their current wallets and what new features they wish for. We kept participants updated as we moved from ideas to prototypes to final designs, gathering feedback along the way. Bringing end-users into the creation process this way leads customers to feel a sense of ownership over the designs they then carry every day.”
The new Minemo Wallet is a beautiful bare-bones cash and credit card carrier that blends convenience, capacity and comfort. Design participants indicated a need to quickly access one or two cards like metro or key-cards. The Minemo’s exterior pocket enables users to conveniently nab those without fully opening the wallet. Inside are two more card pockets and space for folded dollars or even Euros. The understated, wallet for minimalists, available with or without RFID blocking, comes in a choice of three supple, full-grain leather colors, and three hues of all-vegan, Italian waxed canvas that bears a vintage look.
For our ultra-minimalist participants — or to be used in conjunction with another wallet — this Friday WaterField will introduce the Clyff Wallet, a cash and card pouch with a simple, clean design and an ultra-compact footprint. A slim pocket on each side holds three cards each, and a center compartment carries additional cards, some coins, or a few folded bills. In buttery full-grain leather that lasts long and wears well, the Clyff will develop a stunning patina. Both the Minemo and Clyff Wallets sit so comfortably in a front-pants or shirt pocket, that they are barely noticeable.
WaterField’s forthcoming new wallet pairs each center around a different theme — week #2: wallets for classic carriers, week #3: wallets for specialized items and uses, and week #4: fresh upgrades to existing WaterField wallet favorites. Although customer suggestions have always inspired new WaterField products, the company initially formalized its unique community-sourced design process with the development of a collection of Nintendo Switch cases. High customer and company satisfaction with the process inspired WaterField to engage customers again in the development of the Air Porter Carry-on, the iPhone Camera Bag, the Pro Executive Backpack, and a series of Gear Cases.
