The low blue-light standards developed by TUV Rheinland ensure the effective reduction of harmful blue-light content in display monitors. The ROG Phone 3 mobile display uses a new hardware blue light solution that reduces the amount of harmful blue light through improvements to the LCD panel. For consumers, this means more direct protection against blue light for greater eye comfort and better color performance. The TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light standard (2 PfG 2383 / 03.20) used for certifying this gaming phone is the latest version, released in 2020. In this new version, more thought was given to color space to avoid displays that have a yellow tint, providing a better level of eye protection.

Screen flicker or blue light may not be easy to detect in 3C products, but human eyesight is still affected, resulting in disruptions to natural sleep cycles, eye fatigue, and headaches. The 6.59″ AMOLED 10-bit display offers an industry-leading 25ms touch screen latency for almost instantaneous touch response. It also features ultra-fast 144 Hz refresh rates, 1ms response times, Delta E < 1 color accuracy, and HDR10+ high dynamic range support, achieving almost photorealistic screen colors and details. The integrated TUV Rheinland certified “low blue light (hardware solution)” and “flicker-reduced” functions reduce screen flicker and eye fatigue. The intensity of blue light emitted by the screen is also suppressed to provide total protection for players’ windows to the soul.

Max Lyou, Managing Director of TUV Rheinland Taiwan, sent his congratulations on the launch of the mobile phone: “The completion of TUV Rheinland certification means that the product has met rigorous testing requirements. TUV Rheinland had previously collaborated with ASUS on a number of eye protection monitors, but this is the first time that we’ve worked with a Taiwanese mobile phone brand on eye protection. This reflects ASUS’s commitment to the eye comfort of gaming users even as it seeks to deliver the ultimate gaming experience. We look forward to further collaborations with ASUS in the future to build healthier and safer products for consumers.”

TUV Rheinland is the current leader in the number of monitor certifications issued. The company operates the most number of TCO-approved ergonomic labs in the world, and has US EPA-accredited labs as well. In 2014, TUV Rheinland introduced the first low blue light and visual ergonomic testing standards for the display industry in the world, and has continually pushed for continued improvements to the management of harmful blue light by the industry ever since. A range of monitor testing methods have also been developed by TUV Rheinland targeting eye comfort issues such as flicker-free, reflectivity, and glare. The company’s Low Blue Light certification has now achieved widespread acceptance in the display sector.
