Limbs Fly in New Screenshots and Demo for Updated Cult-Classic ARPG “Blade of Darkness” — Releasing October 7th on Steam and GoG.com

ideo game publisher SNEG is excited to announce today that its updated re-release of the brutal and bloody dark fantasy action-adventure game Blade of Darkness launches on PC via Steam and GOG.com on October 7, 2021!

For the uninitiated, this cult classic title shares much in common with the modern “soulsborne” genre and assuredly influenced many beloved games since its original release in 2001. Today, bloodthirsty players can get a taste of the game by downloading the “retro-style shareware” Blade of Darkness demo from Steam.

Blade of Darkness is perhaps best known for its unique and vicious combat mechanics, which put an emphasis on interactivity with the game environment and features dynamic dismemberment of foes as well as the player characters themselves. Devastating combo attacks tear enemies to bits while in-game objects can be broken down to smaller pieces to clear obstacles. The game’s dismemberment system, when paired with its physics-based combat mechanics, offers players wildly exciting enemy encounters. Combat is so unrelenting that if a player’s hero were to lose an arm or leg within battle, they could grab it and use it as a weapon as a last resort. Death only comes when all blood has been spilt!

Players take on the role of one of four characters: Tukaram, the Barbarian; Naglfar, the Dwarf; Sargon, the Knight; or Zoe, the Amazon — each with their own individual strengths, weaknesses, and skills. Each character’s approach to combat differs, with their speed, style, and even height factoring into how their attacks land on enemies. Players must hack and slash their way through hordes of enemies on their gory quest to save the world from the forces of chaos.

The Blade of Darkness re-release has been updated by noted retro-porting developers Fire Falcom and General Arcade to shine on modern PC hardware and operating systems, featuring widescreen support up to 4K resolution, new display settings, and a whole host of quality-of-life and stability improvements. Blade of Darkness launches for PC via Steam and GOG.com on October 7, 2021.
