NASA has awarded a contract to University of Hawaii Systems in Honolulu for management and operational support of the agency’s Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) and related services.

The contract has a hybrid firm-fixed-price core with indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity firm-fixed-price task orders, and a total potential value of approximately $32.8 million. It begins July 1 with a one-year base period, followed by four one-year options.

NASA’s IRTF is one of the telescopes comprising the Maunakea Observatories on the Big Island of Hawai’i. The IRTF is a 3-meter telescope optimized for infrared observations and sits at an altitude of 13,800 feet (approximately 4,206 meters) on Maunakea, an extinct volcano. NASA provides the costs of operation and observing time is open to the entire astronomical community, with 50% of the IRTF observing time reserved for studies of solar system objects.

University of Hawaii Systems will perform this work for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington.
