Electric motors are an important factor in any business’s equipment, and every business wants to maximize their equipment’s lifespan. That said, you need to take care of the motor in order to take care of the machine as a whole. Keep reading to learn some ways to get the most out of your electric motor.

Perform basic maintenance

The lifespan of a motor directly relates to the maintenance it receives. In most cases, an electric motor can last much longer if you merely take care of it. So, to ensure you’re maximizing your motor’s lifespan, you should develop a consistent maintenance schedule. The schedule should include a deep clean of the vents, fans, and so on, in addition to lubrication.

Minimize excessive vibration

Every motor will vibrate to some extent; however, excessive vibration often indicates that something is wrong. The vibration could be a result of something simple like an uneven surface. On the other hand, you may have a bigger problem on your hands. For instance, the vibration could mean there’s corrosion or misalignment within the motor. You would identify the cause through routine maintenance.

Don’t overload the voltage

Forcing more voltage through a motor than it can safely handle is one of the worst things you can do. Not only will overloading the voltage damage your motor, but you could also cause the motor to overheat, leading to a potential fire. To avoid overloading the voltage, you need to start with the right motor in the first place. To make sure you’re getting the correct motor, keep in mind these considerations when choosing an electric motor.

Monitor the temperature

One of the main reasons people must replace motors is due to overheating. You should always monitor the temperature of your motors and do your best to keep the work zone at a comfortable temperature. For instance, if you primarily work in a factory that isn’t climate-controlled, your motor could overheat much faster than if the climate was controlled. Whether you’ve been working with motors your whole life or you’re just starting, everyone wants their equipment to last. By implementing these ways to get the most out of your electric motor, you can significantly improve the lifespan of your motors.
