WORX Provides Outdoor Power Equipment Tips, Suggestions To Kick-Off New Season

Charlotte, NC – It’s that time of year to take stock of outdoor power equipment to ensure it’s ready to go as warmer weather arrives. WORX, a major manufacturer of electric outdoor power equipment, offers a few tips and suggestions. Take inventory beginning with batteries to make sure they are fully charged and retaining their charge. If not, it may be time to consider a replacement.

What’s similar between car batteries and lithium-ion batteries is they are both affected by extreme hot and cold temperatures. In northern climates, if lithium-ion batteries are left outdoors all winter in a tool shed or unheated garage, the cold temperatures will impact run time. As a rule, it’s best to keep batteries indoors and fully charged until they are needed. For WORX 20V lawn and garden tools, if a replacement battery is required, consider upgrading to one with more amp hours to increase run time. Keep in mind that the WORX 20V batteries are compatible with more than 35 lawn and garden and DIY tools as part of their Power Share program for cost savings and convenience.

This season, before mowing with a cordless mower, remove the batteries and tip the mower on its side to inspect the underside of the deck. Use a scraper to remove any leftover grass residue from the previous season. It’s a good practice to have the mower blade sharpened or replaced every season. To remove the mower’s blade, wedge a 2×4 between the deck and the blade to halt the blade’s travel. Use a 3/8 in. ratchet wrench with socket or a combination wrench to remove the fastener holding the blade. Before removing the blade, mark it with nail polish or other identifying mark on its face so when it’s time to reinstall the sharpened blade, it goes on the same way it came off.

It’s also time to check out the string trimmer. Look at the trimmer’s shroud and the wheels to see if there’s any grass buildupWG170.jpg and remove it. Take inventory of trimmer line spools to see if there’s enough line to get through the season. WORX offers a “Spools for Life” program with the purchase of one of their GT trimmers. Once the trimmer is registered, it’s eligible for free spools and the homeowner only pays for shipping. For other WORX trimmers, replacement snap-in spools and spool caps are available from worx.com. Know the trimmer’s model number before ordering. WORX also offers spring tune-up kits for 20V ($49.99) and a 32V Tune-up Kit for $99.99, at worx.com. Each kit includes six snap-in spools, spool cap and a replacement battery.

WG170_LifeStyle_Image-2.jpgSpring storms can create fallen tree branches, so before grabbing the chainsaw, take stock in the saw’s necessary components. Is oil needed for the reservoir to ensure lubrication during operation? Check the status of the bar and chain. If it’s time for a replacement, bars and chains in 6 (JawSaw), 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 in. sizes are available on the WORX website. For specific replacements, know the saw’s model number, which can be found on the tool’s nameplate.

Advance preparation and organization can avoid frustration and aggravation by helping to ensure smooth running of outdoor power equipment this spring and well into summer and fall.
