Unique Ways To Landscape Your Backyard

Staying at home means that you need a fun place to relax and unwind. You can create a vacation spot in your backyard by adding new features that will liven up the space. Here are a few unique ways to landscape your lawn and make it your personal get-a-way.

Reusing Items

Peruse your local resale shops for objects that you can repurpose in your garden that can plants or support planters. If you are going to attempt to grow flowers in them, clean them out thoroughly before doing so. You should consult a professional gardener before you start to see if you need to line the inside to protect your plants. You can also use an antique bike, wagon wheel, or other items as decorations around your yard. Large tires and pools can be reworked into a pond. This attraction with its running water effects can be calm and soothing to whoever is enjoying the space. Be sure that you use good pond management skills and add filters so that the water flows free. Stagnant water can attract mosquitos and other pests.

Unique Walkways

Instead of laying down a cement sidewalk in your backyard to get from the house to other areas, consider using other materials to construct a path. Lay down crushed stone around blocks of concrete to make a walkway. You can get creative with this project by coordinating the colors of rock with the squares or designing it so that the shades compliment each other. You can also purchase or make stepping stones out of decorative pebbles and plaster. This is a great family project, giving every member a chance to leave their personal touch on the yard.

Add Lighting To Your Yard

Stringing lights across your patio or deck can give your lawn a romantic glow and make it an area to entertain guests after it gets dark. If your backyard is absent of this feature, sink poles into the ground to latch the lights to or fix them to your house, shed, garage or fence. Find lights that are rated for outdoor use. There are many styles on the market today that will comply with this from globe-like bulbs to string lights. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation and find a plug that is away from any walking paths to reduce the chances of someone tripping over the cord. You can also add torches to your lawn for additional lighting. Many options will repel bugs as well.
