Charlotte, NC – It’s that time of year to take stock of outdoor power equipment to ensure it’s ready to go as warmer weather arrives. Take inventory beginning with batteries to make sure they are fully charged and retaining their charge. If not, it may be time to consider a replacement.

What’s similar between car batteries and lithium-ion batteries is they are both affected by extreme hot and cold temperatures. In northern climates, if lithium-ion batteries are left outdoors all winter in a tool shed or unheated garage, the cold temperatures will impact run time. As a rule, it’s best to keep batteries indoors and fully charged until they are needed. To remove the mower’s blade, wedge a 2×4 between the deck and the blade to halt the blade’s travel. Use a 3/8 in. ratchet wrench with socket or a combination wrench to remove the fastener holding the blade. Before removing the blade, mark it with nail polish or other identifying mark on its face so when it’s time to reinstall the sharpened blade, it goes on the same way it came off.

It’s also time to check out the string trimmer. Look at the trimmer’s shroud and the wheels to see if there’s any grass buildup and remove it. Spring storms can create fallen tree branches, so before grabbing the chainsaw, take stock in the saw’s necessary components. Is oil needed for the reservoir to ensure lubrication during operation?
