An Updated Look At DC’s Upcoming Films
The superhero phenomenon is showing no signs of slowing down with the films smashing box office records, conventions selling out, and more people wearing fandoms on their sleeves. Despite movies like The New Gods and The Trench facing cancellation at Warner Bros., the studio still has plenty of DC films on the way. Here’s an updated look at DC’s upcoming films and what’s currently in development.
The Suicide Squad
First up, we’ve got James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which will hit theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021. The R-rated film will be a pseudo-sequel to the 2016 film, with Margot Robbie back as Harley Quinn, along with newcomers Idris Elba, John Cena, and many other stars. So far, two trailers have hit the internet, which teases the team going up against the Justice League villain, Starro.
The Batman
Following The Suicide Squad, the next DC film won’t arrive until March 4, 2022, with The Batman. Back in August, fans got their first look at director Matt Reeves’ new take on the Dark Knight with Robert Pattinson filling the role. The Batman will see a young Caped Crusader face The Riddler in a story that will also feature Catwoman and The Penguin.
Black Adam
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is finally getting his shot at a comic book movie with Black Adam. In the comics, Black Adam is traditionally the arch-nemesis of Shazam, but the upcoming film will see him team up with the Justice Society, which includes Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher. Black Adam just started production in Atlanta and is set for a July 29, 2022, release.
The Flash
Justice League star Ezra Miller is finally getting his chance to spearhead his own solo film as The Flash. The film will see the return of Michael Keaton as Batman, along with the introduction of Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Filming on The Flash will begin soon, with the film holding a November 4, 2022, release date.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
A sequel to 2019’s Shazam! is also in the works. Fury of the Gods will see Zachary Levi back as Shazam, with new additions like Helen Mirren as Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso filling out the cast. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is also set to begin filming soon and is currently slated for June 2, 2023.
