DJ Software creators Digital 1 Audio (PCDJ) released DEX 3.19 with revolutionary new AI feature

Digital 1 Audio, Inc (http://www.pcdj.com), pioneers of DJ software products designed for professional DJs, launched version 3.19 of their DEX 3 DJ software (Mac/Windows) with several upgrades including AIUnmixEQ™, an exciting feature for DJs that allows independent mixing of vocal, instruments, and percussion channels or “stems.”

“AIUnmixEQ™ is the culmination of many long hours spent in the PCDJ Lab. It’s truly incredible how AIUnmixEQ™ deconstructs audio, video, or karaoke tracks with impeccable precision, stemming out your tracks for on-the-fly mashup creation and perfect blends,” says Digital 1 Audio’s General Manager Ryan Sherr. “It’s a powerful tool for any DJ or KJ to have in their arsenal. From instant backing tracks to acapella’s, AIUnmixEQ™ makes it as simple as turning an eq knob on your DJ controller or pressing a kill button.”

As the name implies, DEX 3.19 uses machine learning (deep neural networks, a flavor of AI) to add real-time “unmixing,” or stem separation. DJs can use DEX 3’s equalizer knobs and kill pads to smoothly separate songs into 3 stems:

  • Vocals (High eq knob)
  • Instruments (Mid eq knob)
  • Percussion/Drums (Low eq knob)

DEX 3.19’s new AIUnmixEQ™ feature brings up new opportunities for DJs and Karaoke Hosts:

  • Live mashups and seamless advanced remixing
  • On-the-fly acapella or instrumental
  • Instant karaoke tracks from regular tracks (with or without guided vocals)

DJs can activate this DEX 3 DJ software feature from Options -> General tab -> “AIUnmixEQ™ – use the eq knobs as stems: Vocals, Instruments, Drums”.

Also new in DEX 3.19 is an upgraded audio engine boasting true 32-bit output, improving sound quality and overall performance, and support for industry-standard STEM files (files with a “.stem.mp4” extension that contain pre-separated stems: drums, bass, sounds/melody, voice/lead). BPM Sync has also received development attention; using Sync and Sync Start in DEX 3 work better with various music genres than in prior releases.

Important Note: AIUnmixEQ™ is only supported on modern Mac’s/PC’s with 8 GB of RAM or more. For performance reasons it is recommended that DJs also have a machine equipped with a dedicated GPU/Video Card (eg. NVidia, AMD, Apple M1/M2). AIUnmixEQ™ works for songs and videos under 15 minutes long.

DEX 3.19’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $149.
