AudioControl Car Audio Case Study D-Series Amplifiers: Ultimate Solution for 2018 Wrangler

Our customer came to us with his 2018 Jeep Wrangler and asked for a good, punchy audio system featuring an iPad as a source in place of the OEM radio. So we set about creating a design that would satisfy the performance he was looking for based upon the amazing AudioControl D-6.1200 6-channel amplifier with DSP.” Chris Simpson VIP Autoworks.

First and foremost, the VIP team needed an amplifier with ample power to drive the front stage speakers and subwoofer—no rear channels were used in this vehicle, and they wanted a premium quality amplifier with onboard DSP for fine-tuning the system. The AudioControl D-6.1200 was the ideal solution—a 6-channel bridgeable amplifier used for the Wrangler in 5-channel mode.

This configuration enabled the VIP team to power the highly efficient 8-Ohm horns with channels 1 and 2 and the 2-Ohm midbass drivers with channels 3 and 4 at 200-Watts per channel—and they bridged channels 5 and 6 to achieve 400-Watts of output to a JL Audio 10-nch, dual 8-Ohm voice coil subwoofer nestled in a custom enclosure behind the rear seat. The horns were located beneath the dash with custom grilles and the 6.5-inch midbass drivers were installed in the factory speaker locations, which were modified to accommodate the new drivers.
