What To Know When Visiting Yankee Stadium for the First Time

Every baseball enthusiast sees a live game at least once in their life. But have you ever seen one at the famous Yankee Stadium? Here’s what to know when visiting Yankee Stadium for the first time. You’ll not only witness Yankee pride but also be a part of it.

Follow the Health Protocols

Many Major League Baseball stadiums have put precautions in place to ensure everyone’s well-being, so make sure you look up Yankee Stadium’s Health and Safety Guidelines before arriving. Make sure everyone in your party is healthy—you want to maintain proper health standards while considering the other sports enthusiasts around you. Bring hand sanitizer, face coverings, and cashless forms of transactions with you.

Know Which Gates To Enter

All gates at Yankee Stadium open at least 90 minutes before a scheduled game—or 2 hours prior on the weekends. So another tip for what to know when visiting Yankee Stadium for the first time is to know what gate you need to appear at when it’s time to find your seats. Each gate location varies:

  • Gate 2, adjacent to left field: enter via Jerome Avenue and East 164th.
  • Gate 4, behind home plate: enter via East 161st Street and Macombs Dam Bridge.
  • Gate 6, adjacent to right field: enter via East 161st Street and River Avenue.
  • Gate 7, adjacent to center field: enter via River Avenue and East 164th Street.

Plan Out Your Meals and Drinks

Having the full Yankee Stadium experience, complete with delicious food and beverages, is always fun. However, food can cost more in the stadium, so planning out your meals beforehand can help you save some money.

Yankee Stadium also has a clear bag policy, so fill it with juice boxes, snacks, and other allowed goodies. You can also bring water bottles. Otherwise, there are local delis and restaurants in the area that you can visit before you go.

Avoid Higher-Row Seating

When it comes to a baseball game, you want to have the best seats that not only get you a great view but also provide comfortable distances between concession stands and restrooms. Additionally, you’ll enjoy easy access to the Yankee Stadium elevator areas.

However, regular attendees recommend avoiding the higher rows, as the overhang of the main level can block views of the scoreboard and skyline. If you don’t want to pay higher costs for unsatisfying seats, aim for Main Level–seating for the best experience.

Get There Early To See Yankee Stadium History

If you arrive at Yankee Stadium early enough, you can visit Monument Park and the Yankees Museum. You’ll get to see artifacts from the team’s history and statues of Don Larsen throwing the final pitch of his perfect game to Yogi Berra. Plus, visit Babe Ruth Plaza, the Great Hall, and Thurman Munson’s locker. These are all great not only for young fans but also for any sports enthusiast to see.

Seeing a baseball game at Yankee Stadium is an unforgettable experience. So don’t miss out—go see a game!
